Dear NEC – Antiques for Everyone Exhibitors
During the recent summer Olympia, a forum was created, whereby industry members exhibiting and otherwise participating at Fairs in the UK, and abroad, can present and discuss creative ideas and positive suggestions. To date, nearly 4,000 original views and helpful comments have been posted for discussion amongst British and International dealers, by means of a Blog, specifically created for the Art, Antiques and Design community.
As NEC Exhibitors, your posts on this blog would be greatly valued. Accordingly, may we respectfully invite you to comment on your time in Birmingham, and to share any thoughts and suggestions, which you might have for the Fair, which will be of ultimate benefit to us all?
For your information, The British Antique Dealers Association, LAPADA, Tiffany Pritchard and Pip Dawson of Clarion Events, have also been invited to contribute to this blog and your valuable comments, would doubtless be appreciated.
Thank you very much for taking the time to peruse the above.
With best wishes,
Art, Antiques and Design Blog

Summer Antiques for Everyone – 21st – 24th July 2011
Antiques for Everyone, the most popular prestige art and antiques fair of the summer, takes place at the NEC, Birmingham from 21st – 24th July 2011.
Antiques for Everyone offers tens of thousands of desirable, rare and unique works of art, fine furniture and collector’s items from around the world. It is Britain’s largest vetted antiques fair and a major meeting place for dealers and collectors.
The fair is known for its huge range of exhibits, from ancient Roman glass and Chinese antiquities to fine selections of English and European ceramics, period furniture, designer Art Nouveau and Art Deco, fine sculpture, folk art, French and English dolls and toys, Persian carpets, paintings, silver, jewellery, lighting and, new this year, many mid-century modern pieces from the post-war period, an area increasingly popular with younger collectors. The fair has a unique appeal not only to fine art connoisseurs and serious collectors but anyone looking for period furnishings, decorative and vintage accessories. Exhibits will be strictly vetted for quality and authenticity, providing visitors with all the reassurance they need before making important purchases.
This summer’s Special Feature will be a series of complete room sets featuring classic art and antiques, 20th century designer pieces and contemporary art. Exhibits will be drawn from specialist dealers around the fair. These will offer visitors an opportunity to enhance their appreciation of both modern and classic design in settings based on contemporary and period homes.

We were very busy at the show. The NEC Team should be proud of themselves they keep the customers coming even with only 220 stands let. I think one of the problems is that the organisers don’t seem to want a one to one with us? They seem scared of what may be said and perhaps do not not believe it could possibly be positive? There was no sign of any of the girls at all during the show, except at a distance with a hello whilst passing by. They don’t really treat us like customers in the way that we do with our customers where nothing is too much trouble. Hopefully this blog will be used to improve the atmosphere between the dealers and organisers at the NEC and hopefully the show can pull itself round in the future, the more dealers the better.

I to would like to thank the NEC team for their hard work in promoting the AFE a hard task in these difficult times. We had mixed days of trading but taking an overall view we were happy with the results.
Unlike the above trader – The staff were on call throughout the fair as always and visible most mornings in a pre opening scout around the fair. On the later two days again as always staff made visits to all stand holders within my eyesight. The only time the team do not hover is when stand holders are very busy – which is the decent thing to do.
From my point of view bringing up the date line on china was a god send. I welcomed the guidelines as did others. This should be extended to lighting and other objects of virtue where it does not currently apply. I feel a broader and open view of 20th Century art and objects of virtue [ with a provenance would help bring new and a younger client base. There is also a need to promote these changes after all many of the artists, architects, designer etc were and in some cases still are highly qualified in there fields were should be proud to embrace them.
In the current climate it may be better to shorten or reconfigure the structure of the show.
Having a dealers only day and only two public days.
This could be debated.
