Nicholas Bagshawe has worked in the British art market since the 1970’s. Oxford educated, he trained initially with Sotheby’s before working for Pawsey & Payne, dealers in British art, in St. James’s in London. From 1979 to 1994 he was a founding partner of Walker-Bagshawe, dealers in British and European painting from gallery premises in Walton Street in London.

Since 1994 Nicholas Bagshawe has worked as a sole trader in 18th, 19th and early 20th century fine art and has developed a series of lectures on subjects related to his area of expertise. The business is run from gallery premises in London’s St.James’s.

Established in 1872 by Albert Henry Baldwin, Baldwin’s has over 100 years experience in serving the numismatic world.

Although founded much earlier the name A.H. Baldwin & Sons didn’t become synonymous with the London numismatic scene until 1901 when Albert Henry set up his first London based premises on Duncannon Street with his eldest son Percy, joined later by his two other sons Fred (legendary cataloguer of King Farouk of Egypt’s coin collection) and Roy. In 1920 Baldwin’s became a limited company and moved to their premises on Adelphi Terrace, where we remain to this day.

The company moved to its present location at 11 Adelphi Terrace in 1971 and has since grown to become one of the premier numismatic firms with the largest stock of coins, medals, tokens and numismatic books in the UK. The establishment in 1994 by Edward Baldwin of Baldwin’s Auctions has seen the firm develop further to conduct auctions in London, Singapore, Hong Kong, New York and the Gulf States.

The merger of A. H. Baldwin & Sons with Noble Investments (UK) PLC in 2006 and the acquisition in early 2008 of Apex Philatelics has seen the company grow in size to become a formidable market player. Offering a complete package for any coin or stamp collector or investor our team of specialists and consultants cover all aspects of English, Ancient and Foreign coins, commemorative medals, military medals, tokens, banknotes, numismatic books and world stamps.

Baldwin’s has catalogued coins for auction houses in London and abroad for decades. Although remaining anonymous in the catalogues we have provided expertise for some of the worlds most prestigious auction houses including Sotheby’s, Christie’s and Glendinings.

The Baldwin family was renowned for the encouragement and support they gave to collectors and students of numismatics. Their legacy lives on in the new generation of Baldwin’s staff who still pride themselves on their ability to provide an old-fashioned, personal service that will enable you to build or disburse your collection with confidence.

An antiques dealer since 1991, Italian-born Laura Bordignon began to specialise in Japanese art in 1997, becoming a member of the British Antique Dealers Association in 2000. Since then she has been consulted by many collectors worldwide, with requests for guidance on expanding their existing collections or to start new ones. The fast growing interest in Japanese Okimono of the Meji period has been the main catalyst for this book, as very little has been published on the subject.

Antique canes, walking sticks and umbrellas have long been a passion of mine and I offer a large selection dating from 1650 to 1950. These are not perambulatory aids, but items of fashion, individuality, power, status and profession.

A cane was designed to be worn rather than used. It showed who you were and how you viewed yourself. Whether you sported a jewelled Fabergé cane or one of whalebone fashioned by a sailor on a long sea voyage, your cane made a powerful statement. Consequently, these items are intensely personal. Each cane is redolent with the history of bygone individuals and their times.

I established my business in 1972 and have had branches in London and Bath. I now sell from London antique fairs and my website.

Brian and Gillian Watson started dealing in 18th and 19th century drinking glasses and associated table glass in 1991 as a part-time activity. In 1993 Brian resigned his headship of a school in Norfolk to be a full-time dealer and Gill joined him in 1996. Since then their business has grown steadily to become one of the best known in the United Kingdom.

Exhibiting at Olympia, LAPADA Shows, Chelsea and the NEC in Birmingham has drawn attention to their stock from collectors not only in the United Kingdom but in France, Holland, Germany, the USA, Australia and Japan. In consequence, their stock now includes Continental and American glass as well as English.

Having been established and recognised for so long means that much of their stock now comes from collections rather than auctions. Consequently collectors have the opportunity to view items fresh to the market, items which have, in many cases, been in the collections from which they have come for anything up to forty years.
