The Affordable Art Fair Singapore – 18-20th November 201

I have been exhibiting at the Affordable art Fair in London for nine years and have also ventured into some of the European venues (Brussels & Amsterdam).  I was persuaded to take a stand in Singapore by a friend, all I can say is a big thank you!

Singapore is a strange city, rather like a large version of Canary Warf. The F1 Pit building is very well located and there is a huge parking area for visitors. The usual AAF complimentary shuttle buses running between the venue and various areas of the city were also smoothly run.

The overall experience as an exhibitor was extremely positive. Sales levels were higher than anticipated with one of my artists practically selling out on the opening night. As with any fair, there were some stands that did better than others but the overall feeling was of a buoyant and expanding market. All of the contemporary art dealers I spoke to had smiles on their faces throughout the fair.

The team working on the Singapore AAF were also excellent. The fair director Camilla Hewitson, the fair manager Florentine Horvath & the Marketing Manager Alan Koh were always on hand and were an absolute pleasure to work with. The contractors, catering staff and lovely interns made available by the fair were all excellent.

The initial projection for exhibitor numbers was 12,000 visitors but this was exceeded with over 13,500 people visiting. Sales were also above expectations; over 3 million Singapore dollars were spent in the four days as opposed to the 2.2 million projected. I think we can safely say that this is a model that seems to work in a market that is growing rapidly. I will defiantly be applying for the 2012 edition of the fair – a combination of great sales and winter sun, who could resist!
