“Damage to small businesses from the Artist’s Resale Right”
Just a short time ago we launched an online petition with a view to raising the threshold from 1k Euros to 3k Euros concerning the Artists’ Re-sale Right. The amount of signatures has grown to almost 500! In a few short weeks from now, we very much hope the number will be larger still, and more meaningful. It shows the serious disquiet amongst the Art Dealing fraternity at the common threat to our livelihoods posed by the new menace which started on the 1st January.
The different parties who have supported this are of considerable diversity and interest. The range includes: collectors, small dealers, art consultants, UK & international art galleries, academics, CEO of LAPADA, The Secretary General of BADA, artists, a former Chair of the APEC intellectual property experts’ group, auctioneers, art fair organizers, journalists, antique dealers, art valuers, lawyers, a Royal Naval commander, framers and educationalists – to name but a few. The supporters of the petition come from many countries. We should be especially gratified to see several of our American, Chinese and European friends and colleagues amongst their number.
Almost 500 signatures is a fantastic start. However, we would like to encourage you to forward the petition link at the bottom of this post to your family, friends and colleagues. With 10,000 signatures – and preferably twice that – we feel we have a fighting chance of raising the level of implementation.
I would like to express our deepest appreciation and thanks to all those who so far have given their support to date. In the weeks ahead a campaign will unfold to promote this petition further and we look forward to updating you on a regular basis on this blog.
